Curriculum Intent
At Haslingfield Endowed Primary School, we believe every child should be able to communicate their ideas, knowledge and emotions confidently through writing. Our aim is for pupils to develop a wide vocabulary, a strong understanding of grammar and the ability to spell new words by applying taught patterns and rules. We want children to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style for different purposes, audiences and contexts.
Â
We encourage all pupils to take pride in the presentation of their work and to develop a fluent, joined cursive handwriting style by the time they move to secondary school. Children are taught that good writers edit and improve their work, and we support them to become independent in identifying areas for development. Pupils refine their writing during and after the process, using a purple polishing pen to make thoughtful improvements.
