Geography

The geography curriculum at Haslingfield Endowed Primary School is designed to inspire children’s curiosity about the world, beginning with their immediate surroundings and extending to the wider global community.

 

We make purposeful use of the local area to help pupils develop a strong sense of place, while also broadening their understanding of diverse environments, cultures and physical features across the world.

Our curriculum is shaped by the national curriculum and thoughtfully connected to children’s interests and real‑world contexts. Learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils build on prior knowledge, deepen their understanding over time and develop the skills needed to think like geographers.

In line with the National Curriculum (2014), our geography curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Develop knowledge of places at local, national and global scales

• Understand key physical and human processes and how they shape landscapes and communities

• Use geographical skills such as map‑reading, fieldwork, observation and data collection

• Ask thoughtful questions and think critically about environmental issues, change and sustainability

• Begin to explore their own place in the world, developing respect for different environments and an awareness of how choices and actions can impact the planet

Our intention is to build a geography curriculum that nurtures curiosity, deepens understanding and equips children with the knowledge and skills to make sense of the world around them.
