History

The history curriculum at Haslingfield Endowed Primary School makes full and purposeful use of both the immediate and wider local area, helping children develop a deep and meaningful understanding of the rich history that surrounds them.

Our topics are shaped by the national curriculum and thoughtfully connected to children’s interests and the context of our community. Learning is carefully sequenced so that new knowledge builds on what pupils have already learned, and our approach reflects current, research‑informed pedagogy.

In line with the National Curriculum (2014), our history curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Develop a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world

• Think critically and ask perceptive questions, weighing evidence and forming balanced judgements

• Understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between groups

• Begin to explore their own identity and the challenges faced by people in different periods of history

Our intention is to build a history curriculum that inspires curiosity, deepens understanding and helps children make sense of the past and its influence on the present.
