Another busy week in school and we are all settling into the swing of new routines and our new topics and learning.

Our Reception children were absolutely buzzing after their yoga lesson on Monday afternoon! They emerged full of excitement, eager to share their adventures as they travelled all the way to Australia through their imaginations. They proudly demonstrated their surfing skills, told me all about the kangaroos they had encountered, and relived every moment with huge smiles on their faces. Their wonderful imagination, enthusiasm and joy for learning are truly contagious, and it was a delight to see them so engaged and inspired.

During our staff meeting this week, teachers had the opportunity to come together and reflect on how live marking is working within their classrooms. The purpose of live marking is to provide timely verbal feedback to individual pupils and groups, helping to move learning forward, deepen understanding, provide appropriate challenge and address misconceptions as they arise. As this is a new approach for our school, staff are continuing to refine how best to implement it within their own classroom contexts. Our discussion on Wednesday provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate the successes we have already seen, while also sharing ideas and strategies to make the approach even more effective. Over the coming weeks, we will also be seeking feedback from the children to understand their experiences of live marking and how it is supporting their learning. Their views will help us continue to develop and strengthen this approach across the school.

A huge thank you to Terry Baker and Haslingfield Little Theatre for kindly lending a wonderful selection of Victorian costumes to our KS2 families ahead of our Victorian Immersive Day next Friday. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and delighted that, wherever possible, we can borrow and reuse rather than buy new, helping us to make more sustainable choices as a school community.

Now that the children have settled into the new academic year, we are keen to develop a team of volunteers to help broaden and enrich their experiences at school. Our first priority is to establish a group of volunteer readers who can spend time listening to our children share their books. Whether you are able to offer your time weekly, monthly, or just once each half term, any support would be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference to our children. We are also looking for volunteers to help revitalise our school library. This project will involve sorting and organising books, identifying those that are no longer suitable, and arranging resources into themes and categories to make them more accessible and engaging for our children. If you think you could help with either of these opportunities, please contact the school office. We would love to hear from you and welcome your support.
